The short answer is that your password expires for your security. In order to provide a method in which you can use a single password for all of your EMCC services such as Email, Computer/Wireless Access, MyEMCC, and Rave, that password must adhere to all the policies of each service. One such policy is that passwords need to be changed every 180 days.

  7. You should now be authenticated to the wireless network and able to surf the internet.

While the speed of the internet for students is usually negligible for applications like e-mail, web browsing, and instant messaging, you are likely to notice a significant difference when viewing or transferring large files, or when using streaming sites such as YouTube or Netflix. There could be many reasons for this. Here are a few:

  1. Since the student wireless/dorm network is shared network, its data transfer capability depends on how many users are using the same access point. The larger the number of people using the same access point/network connection, the slower the performance of the internet.
  2. If you are far away from an access point, you will experience slower download rates. (If you are in any of the buildings on campus, the distance from an access point would not typically be an issue)
  3. Like any radio signal, wireless networks are vulnerable to interference from certain obstacles and other radio devices – such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, building walls, or even a person walking by.
  4. Excessive streaming and peer-to-peer file sharing applications can also contribute to slow network performance.

If you do not remember your student ID number, or you never received one, please call the IT Department at: 974-4678.

If it is an immediate issue, please call the IT Help Desk at 974-4678. Otherwise, please fill out a work order: https://helpdesk.emcc.edu/form/

Anything you save in this folder using this alternative method will be saved to the OneDrive Cloud. You can access it from any computer as long as you sign in with your EMCC student email account and perform the steps outlined in this tutorial.

Before You Begin

  • Please read through the entire process once to make sure you understand all of the steps.
  • It is highly suggested that you begin this process where high speed internet access is available. The installation process requires that about 900MB of setup files are downloaded to your local machine and this could take a VERY long time over a slow connection.
  • There are two methods to installing Office 365, we recommend using the first method because it is much faster over the wireless network. However if you run into problems, please use the second method.

First Method (Recommended)

Bring your laptop into the IT Department. We have USB devices which you may use to install Office365 on your machine. This method will be MUCH faster than installing over the Wifi because the data is already downloaded to the USB disk. Note: This process will still take 20-30 minutes, so please set aside the appropriate amount of time.
Second Method (Not recommended over campus wifi)
Over the campus wireless network, this can take as long as one hour, maybe more, therefore we recommend that you complete this procedure from home. If that is not an option for you, please contact the IT Department for assistance.

  1. Go to http://portal.office.com and logon with your student email and MyEMCC password
Screen Shot 05-18-15 at 11.36 AM
  2. Once logged in, click the orange box install in the bottom right corner. You might also want to uncheck the two boxes above.

Every student receives 350 pages for free each semester. Additional pages may be purchased from the Business Office at a cost of $5 for 100 pages.

In an effort to reduce paper waste EMCC now uses PaperCut! This  program gives students 350 prints per semester on campus. After that, any student can purchase 100 more prints for only $5.00. This initiative will help students think twice about the environment before printing excessive pages of any document. Students will now also have the ability to print wirelessly in most campus buildings! The procedure for using PaperCut can be seen in the video above or go to MyEMCC or print.emcc.edu to learn more!
